Proper treatment for impacted teeth still presents a challenge for orthodontists. The most common impacted tooth is a maxillary canine. Teeth can be impacted on the palatal or labial side of the mouth and varies from patient to patient. Orthodontic treatment begins with leveling and aligning the teeth and is followed by establishing the proper amount of space for the impacted tooth. Patients receiving orthodontic treatment with impacted teeth usually require interdisciplinary managements between an orthodontist, general dentist, and/or other specialists. When the space is ready, surgical exposure of the impacted tooth is usually done by a specialists, oral surgeon, or periodontist. A button with a gold chain is bonded to the impacted tooth which is followed by orthodontic traction to guide and align the tooth into the arch. With the proper treatment, the final result is very desirable!
